Recent data from the CDC shows that excessive alcohol use was responsible for more than 140,000 deaths in the United States each year during 2015–2019, the equivalent of more than 380 deaths per day. It is estimated that deaths from excessive drinking shortened the lives of those who died by an average of 26 years, for a total of nearly 3.6 million years of potential life lost each year. These estimates are from the CDC's Alcohol-Related Disease Impact (ARDI) application which provides national and state estimates of alcohol-related health impacts, including deaths and years of potential life lost (YPLL).
