NASADAD, in collaboration with the Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs (AMCHP), recently released an issue brief titled Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SIRT) for Pregnant and Postpartum Women: Opportunities for State MCH Programs. The brief includes recent data on substance use among pregnant and postpartum women, background on SBIRT and the various components of the approach, information on putting SBIRT into practice, and snapshots from several States that have successfully implemented the evidence-based practice. Finally, the brief offers opportunities for Title V/MCH programs to advance the use of SBIRT and provides resources and screening tools.
