The Council of State Governments Justice Center recently introduced new resources around criminal justice and economic opportunity.
Parole and probation violations have an outsized effect on state prison populations. The Course Corrections Cost Calculator uses data, soon to be released in our annual Confined and Costly report, to show how simple changes in probation and parole outcomes can impact a state’s prison population and costs.
Also recently introduced is a national playbook with strategies for states to reduce roadblocks to employment for people with criminal records, as well as 20 playbooks to show progress made by individual states. The state playbooks show the progress that individual states have made toward meeting the key strategies, which are outlined in the national playbook.
